Knitting with friends!

Knitting is a wonderful solitary practise and gives opportunity for slowing down and reflecting on life but we are made for relationship and knitting with friends is so rewarding! It occurs in many ways and yet there is a common love of fibre and creativity that connects us:) When I started knitting again in 2008, I was blown away by what I found out there in terms of the choices of fibres and the patterns that are available to us.

Ravelry was fairly new but I signed up right away and not many a day goes by that I do not spend some time checking out what my friends are knitting or adding another pattern to my huge list of patterns!!

A friend of my invited me to join their knitting group and I didn't accept for a long time but when I did, I was once again blown away by the instant comradery that I experienced. Comradery is defined as a feeling of trust, a bond created by a shared goal or experience - you don't have to be best friends with everyone in the group to know that you have their support.

I recently joined the Toronto Knitters Guild and at first was intimidated by how many more experienced knitters were there and wondered if I would fit in? Well, what better place to learn new things and make new friends!! We are all different and with a larger group there are more opportunities to discover and learn many new things.

The first time I went to a large knitting event was in 2009  and I could hardly believe that there were so many people in the world that enjoyed knitting and I love attending these events that afford an even wider view of what is happening in the world of fibre lovers of all kinds! Planning is well under way for The Knitters Frolic at which I will be a vendor again this year. Make sure that you have marked your calender for April 30!!

Finally, with all the  technology that is available we can learn and experience community even while listening to a podcast or finding how to do something on line but actually getting together is highly recommended. My two favourite podcasts for inspiration are and 6 Bits!

I hope to see YOU soon....have a wonderful day!
